HEBER CITY, Utah-Thursday, as the Region 8 track and field championships concluded from Wasatch High School, the Wasps saw various athletes qualify for the state championship meet May 18 and 19 at BYU.
Overall, the Wasps’ boys placed fifth with 84 points. The girls’ competition saw the Wasps place fourth overal with 94.5 points.
In the boys’ 110-meter hurdles, Wasatch’s Bennet Hill took the Region 8 crown with a time of 14.93 seconds. In the girls’ 100-meter dash, the Wasps’ Katelyn Nichols placed sixth overall.
Another region title came for the Wasps in the boys’ 100-meter dash as Zachary Davis posted a time of 10.97 seconds.
In the girls’ 4 x 100 relay, Wasatch qualified by placing third overall. The Wasps’ stars in this event consisted of Karissa Bingham, Katelyn Nichols, Mickey Scovil and Addy Larsen.
Freshman standout Makayla Bastos placed third in the girls’ 400-meter dash to qualify in her first year of high schol experience, posting a time of 1;01.20.
The Wasps’ boys came up with another region crown in the boys’ 300-meter hurdles with Jake Hill posting a time of 40.92 seconds.
In the boys’ 800-meter run, Kellin Olsen comes into the state meet as the #2 overall seed out of Region 8 by posting a time of 1:58.58.
Additionally, Sydney Hales qualified for state in the girls’ 200-meter run by posting a time of 26.86 seconds.
The girls and boys 4 x 400 relay teams also qualified as the girls placed third in a time of 4:10.40 and the boys placed fourth in 3:27.24.
Zachary Davis qualified in the boys’ long jump as well by placing second with a leap of 21-01.75 feet.
Addy Larsen is Region 8’s champion in the girls’ long jump, posting a leap of 16-05.00 feet.
In the girls’ high jump, Annie Hill of Wasatch placed second with a leap of 4 feet 11 inches. Mitch Nelson placed second in the boys’ shot put with a toss of 48-11. In these respective events, Hill and Nelson qualified.
Nelson also qualified in the boys’ discus, posting a toss of 139-06.75 feet and placing third.
The girls’ discus event saw Sydney Hiatt place third with a toss of 92 feet.
In the girls’ javelin competition, Ellie Tuddenham took the Region 8 crown with a toss of 104-05 feet. Quincy Olney also qualified by placing fourth.
Thus, there are plenty of Wasps who will be competing at the state track and field championship meet and we will be able to update the results in real time much more swiftly.
