UVU Men’s Basketball Selected 3rd by Media, 4th by Coaches in WAC Poll

DENVER-Wednesday, the Utah Valley University men’s basketball team was selected third by the media and fourth by the coaches in the WAC preseason poll.

This information was released at the annual WAC Basketball Preview and Media Day at the Crowne Plaza Denver International Airport Convention Center.

The media and coaches each selected Wolverines senior guard Conner Toolson to the preseason All-WAC first team.

Toolson, a native of Highland, Utah and transfer from SLCC, averaged 12.1 points and 3.7 rebounds last season for the Wolverines.

He also led the WAC with 53 steals and was third in 3-point field goals at 75, and fifth in 3-point field goal percentage at 40.3 percent from range.

Toolson earned second team All-WAC honors last season.

Also, Jake Toolson was named to the preseason second-team All-WAC squad. The junior guard out of Gilbert, Ariz. averaged 11.2 points and 4.7 rebounds last season and was the conference’s third-best free throw shooter, connecting at an 84.6 percent clip at the stripe.

He was seventh in the league in shooting, connecting on 50.4 percent of his shots from the field.

New Mexico State was named as the favorite to win the WAC by both media and coaches.

The Wolverines will host Midnight Madness Friday at 11:30 pm at the Lockhart Arena and host NCAA Division II Dixie State in an exhibition October 30.
