UVU Baseball Announces Five New Signings

OREM, Utah-Late Wednesday, Utah Valley baseball coach Eric Madsen announced five new signings to his program.

This group joins Devin Smith, a 2016 signee currently serving a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints mission, as new members of the class of 2020 to enroll at UVU next fall.

These players include infielder Garrett Broussard of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., pitcher Dylan Cook of Chino Hills, Calif., catcher Trey Newman of Phoenix, outfielder Jarrett Pille of Chandler, Ariz. and pitcher Nick Sims of Murrieta, Calif.

At Capistrano Valley High School, Broussard will be entering his senior season and was part of a team that won the California Interscholastic Federation section championship in 2018.

At Ruben S. Ayala High School, Cook went 5-0 with a 1.69 ERA. He is a southpaw that led the Bulldogs to the CIF semifinals in 2018 as well as the quarterfinals in 2017.

At Pinnacle High School, Newman was named first-team All-Paradise Valley District as a junior and was named honorable mention all-region for the Pioneers.

Pille, a Perfect Game Top 500 player for the 2019 class, attends Notre Dame Prep of Scottsdale, Ariz. He has a career .370 batting average and earned high honorable mention on the Rawlings Preseason All-American team while starring for the St. Bernards.

Sims is a right-handed pitcher for Vista Murrieta High School and is currently a three-year varsity starter for the Broncos.

He was instrumental in leading his squad to a 2017 Southwestern League Championship.
