SUU Men’s Basketball Returns To America First Event Center This Week



CEDAR CITY, Utah-This week, the Southern Utah men’s basketball team, sporting a 10-10 (5-6 in Big Sky Conference play) record returns to the America First Event Center for home games against Weber State Thursday and Idaho State Saturday.

The Thunderbirds successfully completed a 4-game road swing Monday by humbling the Idaho Vandals 75-64 at Moscow, Idaho.

SUU was blessed by the magnificence of Arizona State transfer, redshirt sophomore forward Andre Adams Monday as he posted 23 points and 14 rebounds, while making all nine of his shot attempts on the evening.

Adams currently averages 11 points and 6.4 rebounds per game on the season.

The Thunderbirds have outscored opponents by five net points on the season, 1552 (77.6 points per game) to 1547 (77.4 points per game).

SUU is led in scoring on the season by the emerging senior guard Brandon Better and redshirt junior guard/forward Cameron Oluyitan, who each average 13.2 points per game.

As the Thunderbirds entertain Weber State Thursday, the Wildcats come in with a record of 14-8 and 8-3 in Big Sky play. One of those three losses was at the hands of the Thunderbirds in overtime 90-82 January 5 at the Dee Events Center in Ogden.

The Wildcats outscore opponents by 7.7 points on the season per game, 81.5 points-73.8 points.

Junior guard Jerrick Harding (22 points per game) is Weber State’s leading scorer with fellow junior guard Cody John (14.3 points) also pacing the Wildcats.

Senior forward Brekkott Chapman (12.8 points, 9 rebounds) remains the Wildcats’ overall statistical star this season.

The Wildcats lead the Thunderbirds 32-9 all-time and SUU’s upset win at Ogden snapped Weber State’s six-game winning streak in this series.

Saturday, the Thunderbirds host Idaho State while the Bengals will have played Northern Arizona at the Walkup Skydome of Flagstaff, Ariz. the prior Thursday.

The Bengals are currently 8-12 and 4-7 in Big Sky play.

Idaho State scores 72.8 points per game while surrendering 77.6 points per contest.

Junior guard Brandon Boyd (14.6 points per game) is Idaho State’s leading scorer, with fellow junior guard, Hungarian national Balint Mocsan (11.3 points per game), supplementing the Bengals’ offense.
