SUU Men’s Basketball Faces Eastern Washington In Semis For Second Consecutive Year



BOISE, Idaho-Friday, Southern Utah men’s basketball (16-15, 9-11 in Big Sky Conference play), the #7 seed in the Big Sky conference tournament, faces #3 seed Eastern Washington (15-17, 12-8 in conference play) in the semifinals.

This is the second consecutive year the Thunderbirds have faced the Eagles in the conference semifinals.

In Thursday’s quarterfinals upset of Northern Colorado, an 83-64 Thunderbirds win, Southern Utah shot 52.7 percent for the game and 52.4 percent behind the arc. They also shot 93.3 percent (14-15) at the foul line.

The Thunderbirds were led by redshirt junior guard forward Cameron Oluyitan (18 points, 7-13 shooting) and junior forward Jacob Calloway (17 points, 6 rebounds, 6-12 shooting).

In the conference tournament, the Thunderbirds are shooting 61 percent behind the arc thus far.

The Eagles, who were led by junior forward Mason Peatling’s 28 points and 14 rebounds in Thursday’s 90-84 quarterfinals win over Montana State, are seeking their fourth straight conference win and eighth all-time appearance in the Big Sky conference championship game.

The winner of this game plays in the Saturday championship game, a 6:00 pm tip-off to be broadcast on ESPN-U.
