Hot-Starting Utah State Basketball Hosts Mississippi Valley State Tuesday

LOGAN, Utah-Tuesday night, Utah State hosts Mississippi Valley State of the Southwestern Athletic Conference as they seek to build upon their 2-0 start to the season.

New Aggies head coach Craig Smith is the 10th head coach in program history to win his first two games.

In wins over Montana State and Hartford, the Aggies have exceeded 100 points on both occasions.

The Aggies have also had each player on the active roster score in both of the games.

Star junior guard Sam Merrill has been spot-on for the Aggies as well, as in the wins over the Bobcats and Hawks, he is shooting 18-25 (72 percent) from the field. He is also 6-8 (75 percent) behind the arc and 9-9 (100 percent) at the foul line.

Furthermore, Utah State’s bench averages 51.5 points this season and senior forward Dwayne Brown Jr. tied his career high with 24 points in the 100-73 win over Hartford as he came off the bench that game.

If the Aggies exceed 100 points this evening, they will have done so for three straight games for the first time since the 1972-73 season.

Incidentally, the Delta Devils have given up 95 points per game this season, while also allowing opponents to shoot 52.6 percent from the field.

Utah State will next be in action Friday as they host Utah Valley.
