Grayson Murphy Named 1st Team All-American

EUGENE, Ore.-Saturday, the Utah track and field’s sole competitor on the final day of competition at the NCAA Track and Field championships earned All-American honors.

Utes star 3000-meter steeplechase competitor Grayson Murphy became a first-team All-American after placing sixth in the event in a time of 9:48.80.

This is just a fraction behind her personal-best time of 9:48.57 she ran in the event during Thursday’s semifinals competition.

Utes head coach Kyle Kepler expressed his approval of her performance, citing that she gave it her all during Saturday’s final despite not feeling well.

Murphy, a native of Salt Lake City who never ran track before her collegiate career commenced, leaves the Utes’ program as a five-time All-American between plaudits won in cross country and indoor track and field as well as outdoor track and field.

After transferring from Santa Clara, Murphy has competed in every NCAA national competition for the Utes since becoming eligible.

Murphy began her collegiate athletic career as a soccer player at Division III Sweet Briar before enrolling at Santa Clara to compete in track and field for the Broncos from 2014-16.
