Dixie State Football Continues To Make History With Win At Black Hills State

SPEARFISH, S.D.-Trent Darms netted 280 yards of total offense and the Dixie State Trailblazers won their fourth straight game, edging Black Hills State 41-38 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference football action Saturday at Lyle Hare Stadium.

The Trailblazers improved to 4-1 on the season after suffering a 56-14 defeat at Colorado State-Pueblo to commence the 2018 campaign. Their 4-1 record (which is also their record in RMAC play) is also the best start to a season Dixie State has ever enjoyed in its history as an NCAA Division II program.

For the second consecutive week, the Trailblazers won with late-game heroics as after Trey Fleming’s 28-yard field goal gave the Yellow Jackets a 38-35 lead, Dixie State signal-caller Michael Sanders threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Conner Miller with 41 seconds left in the game.

The hard-luck Yellow Jackets fell to 0-5 on the season and were led, in defeat, by quarterback Tyler Hammons (21-35, 256 yards, 3 TD’s).

Dixie State stays on the road next Saturday as they face a non-conference foe in Division II Top 10 program Grand Valley State at Allendale, Mich.
