HEBER CITY, Utah-Per a report from wasatchhighathletics.com Tuesday, Wasatch High School hired Chris Stover as the new golf coach. He will head both the boys and girls’ golf programs for the Wasps.
Stover is a lifer in golf, having started his love affair with the sport as both a junior and senior at Springville High School, earning most improved and most valuable honors, respectively, for the Red Devils.
After graduating from Springville High, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Honduras Tegucigalpa Mission.
Upon his return, he walked on to the Southern Utah University golf team and proceeded to earn a scholarship to compete for the Thunderbirds, propelling his pro golfing career.
After graduating from SUU, Stover spent the next nine years as an assistant golf professional in the St. George area.
Commencing with the Sunbrook Golf Club, he then moved to Southgate Golf Club, eventually ending up at the Bloomington Country Club.
As of 2005, Stover took a job in charge of golf affairs at the Palisade State Park Golf Course at Sterling, Utah.
In this capacity, he became Manti High’s golf coach, starting a junior golf program in the Manti High area and leading the Templars to six region crowns and a pair of state championships. He also pioneered the Manti girls’ golf program as well.
After leaving Palisade, Stover took over the operations at Wasatch Mountain Golf Course of Midway in 2013.
In his capacity at Wasatch Mountain State Park, Stover has served as the president of the Utah Section PGA and as a member of the youth player development committee for the PGA of America.
Stover says he is looking forward to contributing to the Wasps’ program in a meaningful way.
