BYU Men’s Basketball’s Yoeli Childs Named To Watch List for Olson, Henson Awards



PROVO, Utah-Wednesday, BYU men’s basketball star junior guard Yoeli Childs was named to the mid-season watch lists for the Lute Olson Award and the Lou Henson Award.

The Olson award, named for the legendary former Arizona, Long Beach State and Iowa head coach, is awarded to the nation’s top Division I men’s basketball player.

The Henson award, named for the legendary former New Mexico State and Illinois head coach, is awarded to the country’s top mid-major player.

Childs has started all 17 games for the Cougars and averages 21.6 points and 10.3 rebounds on the season for a 9-8 BYU squad.

He is also shooting 54.2 percent from the field and has posted 10 double-doubles.

Other stalwarts on the Olson watch list include South Dakota State forward Mike Daum and St.John’s guard Shamorie Ponds, among others.

Others contending for the Henson award include Daum, Weber State guard Jerrick Harding and Montana guard Ahmaad Rorie.
