HOOPER, Utah (AP) — Officials have identified a northern Utah city worker who died after he fell headfirst into a pipe in the city’s sewer system and drowned.
The Standard Examiner reports the Weber County Sheriff’s Office said Monday that Hooper sewer director Dennis Steele fell in a shallow valve pit containing ground water while on a routine service call on Saturday.
A co-worker was unable to remove him, and called 911.
The sheriff’s office and other first-responders found Steele had died.
The incident remains under investigation.
